Where are the women?

No women are in charge of any of the top New Zealand companies in the Business Herald's executive pay survey.

Only one woman, former Summerset Group chief executive Norah Barlow, made this year's pay rankings and she retired from that position in April 2014.

Tech bosses

The average pay for the chiefs of New Zealand's top listed technology companies has jumped and the fact there are now eight firms in the latest Business Herald pay survey is indicative of a shift in the business sector, say commentators.

The data

The bosses of New Zealand's biggest companies enjoyed an average pay rise of 10 per cent last year, their biggest bump since 2010.

The increase for those at the top dwarfs the 3 per cent of growth for the average wage and salary earner in the year to June 2014.
