Auckland property developer and investor Ted Manson - who had Lorde sing at his 60th a few weeks ago - has created a new $5 million charitable anti-poverty, childhood health and education foundation and wants people to apply for funds.
Mr Manson said the Ted Manson Foundation was not seeking any other donations and he described the $5 million as only his initial commitment. He wanted to make "a real impact and a difference to the community".
The businessman, who usually shuns media attention, said he wanted to encourage people and groups to apply for the grants.
"This year I turned 60, and with my three sons being more actively involved in the business I am at a stage in my life where I can devote more time to helping others in the community," said Mr Manson of Mansons TCLM.
Lorde sang at the party, held in the foyer of the four-building Telecom campus HQ on Victoria St West, and it was there he first spoke of the foundation.
