Skyline Rotorua's scenic and intermediate luge tracks have been kitted out with $250,000 worth of multi-coloured LED lighting, illuminating the tracks in time for their new extended hours.
This summer, Skyline Rotorua's luge tracks will open earlier and close later than in previous years, with most tracks open until 10pm.
Skyline Rotorua general manager Andrew Jensen says the extended hours are part of preparations for another busy summer season.
An extra 40 staff will be employed as a result of the extended hours.
"Summer offers some of the most beautiful mornings with clear views over the city and Lake Rotorua. An early start allows visitors to make the most of this," Jensen said.
The popular twilight luge is also under way, and the experience is even bigger thanks to the addition of 4km of new LED lighting across the scenic and intermediate track.
"Twilight luging has always been popular, especially with locals, as it's prime time to watch the sun go down and enjoy the stunning views of the city lights in the distance. We imagine the morning luge will gain the same popularity," Jensen said.
Jensen says the coloured lights fit the scenic track's style and theme.
