Michael Hill moves into Canada

Jewellery chain Michael Hill International has opened its first two stores in Canada.

The company's expansion into the northern hemisphere has started with a store in Burnaby, a suburb of Vancouver, and another at Abbotsford, about 60km from Vancouver.

A third store is due to open mid-November on Vancouver Island.

Shares in Michael Hill fell a cent to $5.69 in early afternoon trade.
