Stock exchange trade numbers up 22 per cent

The total number of trades on the stock exchange was 22 per cent higher last month than in January 2006, market operator NZX says.
The 45,919 trades had a total value of $2.1 billion, a rise of 7 per cent.
The average number of daily trades was up
16 per cent to 2187, while the average daily value traded was $100 million, a 2 per cent increase.
During January $341m of new equity and $285m of new debt was raised.
The NZSX-50 index ended January on 4153 points, a 2.4 per cent increase for the month.
