Major ice cream brand pulls stock from shops

A major ice cream brand is pulling its stock from shop shelves after an ingredient was used in production that did not meet company requirements.

The Kiwi Ice Cream Company has issued a nationwide recall notice for some Kiwi and Mel-O-Rich desserts.

The notice said the batches affected "should not be consumed" and the consumer should return it to their retailer for a full refund.

It was the second recall of the food in a week.

Last week other batches were taken off shelves because a routine audit by the company revealed that a supplied ingredient used in some of their products was re-packed in an unlicensed food premises, the Ministry for Primary Industries said.
