State-owned Landcorp Farming has taken full control of New Zealand's largest red meat genetics business - Hawkes Bay-based Focus Genetics - after acquiring the remaining 33 per cent of shares that it did not already own for an undisclosed sum.
The holding was bought from Rissington Breedline.
Focus Genetics is New Zealand's largest red meat genetics company by market share, selectively breeding rams, bulls and stags for meat production. The company has sheep breeding operations in Australia, South America and the United Kingdom.
Having one owner provided certainty for Focus Genetics' plans to invest more towards achieving greater rates of genetic improvement, said chief executive Gavin Foulsham.
"This deal means we can better leverage Landcorp's market presence to develop new partnerships and customers."
