A Marlborough Salmon distributor has secured a lucrative supermarket deal with two of Japan's largest buying organisations.
NZ King Salmon, which currently supplies Japan with 800 metric tonnes of Salmon a year, is expecting to triple its market share within the next three years as a result of the deal.
To date, the salmon exporter's markets have included China and North America.
This agreement has secured a relationship with two of Japan's largest central buying organisations (CBO) which supply more than 80 Japanese supermarket chains.
The CBOs will assist with sales support, marketing promotions and product development, including tradeshows.
NZ King Salmon Japan country manager Rob Morris said, "The alignment with two of Japan's largest retail CBOs provides benefits in marketing efficiency and new product development."
He said the CBOs will introduce NZ King Salmon representatives to the decision makers of the chains and assist with product development where necessary.
