Kid invents device to prevent hot car deaths after a child died

A boy from Texas has invented a device which he hopes will save the lives of babies and young children if they become locked in a hot car.

39 toddlers died in 2016 as a result of being left inside sweltering cars after being forgotten about by their parents.

It was the highest number of deaths in three years with the state of Texas having the highest number in the nation with nine cases.

10-year-old Bishop Curry V says he decided to create a device he calls 'Oasis' after a baby died in a hot minivan last summer near his home in McKinney, Texas.

The fifth grader decided to do something about the problem when a baby died in a car near his home.

The tragedy hit close to home because Bishop has a one-year-old sister.

'Sometimes babies fall asleep and they're really quiet, so if you're rushing home from work or you're rushing to the grocery store, I could see how somebody could forget,' said Bishop's dad, also called Bishop, to NBC News.

The device is called the Oasis and blows cold air if a child is left in its car seat by accident.

Bishop's device would see it attach to a car seat and it would detect if a child were left inside vehicle blowing cool air until parents and authorities are notified.

'It would be a dream to have lots of inventions that would save many lives,' the youngster said.

The fifth grader has a patent pending on his idea and his dad, who works as an engineer for Toyota, has even alerted company bosses of the invention.

The family have set up a GoFundMe page to help further Bishop's invention.
