New Zealand is getting its first Ikea store this week with the official opening of the iconic Swedish furniture store in Sylvia Park, Auckland.
This might not mean much to you if you live in Te Hāpua or Balclutha, but if you live out of Auckland and still want toshop Ikea furniture and homewares, the good news is that you can.
Ikea’s full range of products will be available, from this week, to anyone in New Zealand, via nationwide home delivery as well as a network of 29 pick-up points across the country.
These pick-up points will be operated by Mainfreight, and will include dedicated parking and drive-in lanes for collection of purchased goods.
Ikea New Zealand fulfilment manager Jan Vanderstappen said when the company decided to enter the New Zealand market, it wanted to be accessible to everyone across the country, “not just to those living in Auckland and close to our store”.
The company partnered with NZ Post and Mainfreight to ensure nationwide coverage.
The delivery of products will be done using electric vans and trucks, with a goal of achieving 100% zero emission delivery in the Auckland metro area.
“We’re confident we will meet the expectations of our customers no matter where they live, or how they would like to shop with us,” Vanderstappen said.

Orders made online will be separated into truck and parcel flow; NZ Post will deliver smaller accessories and furnishings as parcels, and larger flat-packs and furniture will be transported by Mainfreight trucks.
For those who can’t make it to the store in Sylvia Park, orders can be placed online via the website or the Ikea app (currently being rolled out to NZ customers). They can also order by phone. All customers have the option of home delivery or collection from one of the pick-up points, listed below.
