Govt computer contract to save $35m, says Brownlee

A new all-of-government contract to supply computers to state sector agencies will save more than $35 million over five years, Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee says.

Brownlee said five suppliers - Acer, Cyclone, Gen-i, HP New Zealand and The Laptop Company - had been included on a panel for the five-year contract.

"These contracts will deliver improved service quality, make it easier for companies to do business with government and save more than $35m over the five years."

Brownlee said the Department of Internal Affairs negotiated the contract, which is the final of four all-of-government contracts let in the first year of procurement reforms.

Together, the reforms were expected to deliver savings of more than $115m. The earlier contracts were for office supplies, passenger vehicles and print devices.

Brownlee said Cabinet had asked officials to look at developing all-of-government contracts for other purchases including external legal services, travel, recruitment, information and communication technologies hardware and utilities.
