Senior Labour MP Steve Maharey says the party will not introduce a fourth week's holiday for workers.
Questioned at Business New Zealand's pre-election conference yesterday, he said Labour would not introduce an extra week's leave and it would not be put on the table at post-election coalition talks.
Allianceleader Laila Harre, who was sitting beside Maharey during the questioning, jumped on the issue.
She challenged him to say if the stand was a bottom-line for Labour, and later issued a statement saying if New Zealanders wanted a fourth week's annual leave they should not allow Labour to govern alone.
Harre said a coalition partner with a commitment to four weeks' leave, such as the Alliance, was needed to make sure workers got the extra entitlement.
