About 200 Wellington Fonterra staff face the chop and a further 200 will move to other centres, the dairy giant announced today.
About 150 roles would transfer to Auckland, 50 to Hamilton and 20 to Palmerston North, while about 200 people were likely to be made redundant.
The new structure accommodates the
transition of NZMP, as the world's largest dairy ingredients business, from a stand-alone unit to the heart of Fonterra's operations, Fonterra said in a statement.
The redundancies would be a result of duplication or business improvement initiatives currently under way.
Wellington would remain home to around 100 of Fonterra's staff involved in the Trade Strategy and Compliance groups and Fonterra's $5.5 billion consumer goods business, New Zealand Milk.
