Chapman said Burrett was a great mentor and inspirational leader who was widely admired for his passion and ability to engage with people across all levels of the organisation.
"Hugh is fondly remembered by his many former colleagues and leaves a lasting legacy of success at ASB."
Former ASB chief executive Sir Ralph Norris said Burrett was a very special person who he valued as a colleague and a friend.
"His people skills and customer service focus were second to none."
Burrett is survived by his wife Sue and three children.
