Police serious crash unit and WorkSafe New Zealand were investigating.
No further details could be released as next-of-kin were in the process of being contacted, police said.
WorkSafe said it could not comment further as it was investigating the incident.
"We cannot provide further comment until the investigation has been completed," WorkSafe said.
WorkSafe representatives are at the business and a tow truck can be seen across the road.
A spokeswoman at Davies International Freight refused to comment.
Emergency services, including police and one ambulance, rushed to the scene after being called just after 2.50pm.
St John Ambulance spokesman Robbie Walker said one man had died at the scene and no transportation was required.
A police officer told media the incident occurred in the driveway, where a truck could be seen this afternoon.
The driveway has been cordoned off and police officers were still visible at the site.
The driver of the truck had been breath tested but the results were clear, the officer said.
The truck has been seized as part of the investigation.
