Fullers staff angered by restructure

Employees are up in arms over proposed restructuring at Fullers Bay of Islands.

Fullers is to be incorporated into parent company InterCity and staff have been told they may have to reapply for their jobs. Up to four positions could be cut.

InterCity purchased Fullers Bay of Islands last year.

Skipper Hugh Blomfield says in eight months of ownership InterCity has destroyed the iconic Bay of Islands institution. He says he is devastated and will not reapply for his job.

Fullers chief executive Malcolm Johns says like other tourism companies affected by fuel prices, the company has to look at its business structure and make changes if needed.
