Forget standing desks, it's time to work lying down

If you're trying to decide whether to invest in a standing desk, check out this new US-designed desk that allows computer addicts to work lying down.

Altwork has designed a workstation that allows users to work at their desk while, sitting, standing and reclining back to lie down.

The work stations cost US$5900 and are designed for "high-intensity" computer users.

Although it looks a bit like a dentist's chair, the chair and desk are designed to keep the user at the height of comfort while working.

The Altwork Station can be used in four ways the user can configure through electronic buttons; standing, collaboration, regular and focus. Finer adjustments can be made to the desk through a number of different levers.

The user can opt to stand at the desk and work, sit in a traditional manner, collaborate with others by turning the screen and desk around, and in focus mode you can recline the chair and the desk and screen will follow.

Nothing will fall on your face while you're reclined because Altwork has built in magnets to the desk, to keep a keyboard, mouse and other items in place.

The desk is big with a 1.67 sq m footprint, which would make it better suited to people who work from home or in a small office setting.
