The man crushed between two trucks at a Christchurch work site yesterday has been named by police.

Colin Andrew Craig, a 65-year-old from Christchurch, died in hospital after the accident at GVI Logistics in Ivan Jamieson Place, near Christchurch International Airport at 10.15am yesterday.

He was rushed to Christchurch Hospital emergency department with serious injuries but later died.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.

"Canterbury Police and Victim Support are working with his family and colleagues at this extremely upsetting and traumatic time," a police statement said this afternoon.

Police and WorkSafe NZ investigations are ongoing.

Seven police vehicles and several officers were at the site, a cul-de-sac in a busy industrial area, yesterday morning.

Detective Sergeant Colin Baillie said yesterday said initial scene examinations "indicate a worker has been squashed between a moving vehicle and a stationary vehicle".

"A scene examination has been completed and a number of people who witnessed the incident have been spoken to," Mr Baillie said.

Officers were examining a Hall's Refrigerated Transport truck and trailer, which appears to have been involved.

A spokeswoman for GVI Logistics yesterday said, "We've got no comment at this stage."
