Spectrum on the block

A Government auction of eight blocks of radio spectrum suitable for the nationwide deployment of mobile services or high-speed wireless broadband began yesterday.

Ten companies including Telecom, Vodafone and Woosh are among the bidders hoping to secure spectrum in the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz band.

Bids on individual blocks had ranged from $250,000 to $400,000.
