The Warehouse CFO dies suddenly

The chief financial officer of The Warehouse, Stephen Small, has died, the company has announced.

Small died suddenly, The Warehouse Group chairman Ted van Arkel said in a statement after the market closed yesterday.

His death is understood to be from natural causes.

"Stephen was a hugely respected member of our executive team and it is a shock to us all at this time," van Arkel said.

"Stephen will be greatly missed by our team.

"We send our deepest sympathies to his wife Yoko and his family who are in the thoughts and prayers of the entire company."

Small, a New Zealander, was chief financial officer for General Motors Korea, and held senior financial roles with the US automaker in Asia and the United States.

He joined the country's biggest listed retailer in April 2012.
