Kerre Woodham: Little joy in an early Christmas

The moment the Newmarket Business Association dares to tack tinsel to any of its stores, I'll be hotfooting it out of the shopping precinct and heading for the burbs.

I know it's been a tough winter. But the suggestion that Christmas promotions will start before Labour Weekend as Cameron Brewer has stated is enough to get my nerves more jingled and jangled than the bells on Santa's sleigh.

I'm no Scrooge. I love Christmas. But I will boycott any shop that dares to use Christmas to boost sales before at least the middle of November.

We should all be looking forward to a lovely festive celebration with family and friends as the climax of the year, not be prostrate, jaded and exhausted with Christmas fatigue before December even arrives.
