Two months after starting in Canberra Bush had been promoted to store manager of the Bondi franchise and within six months had increased sales there by 54 per cent.
By 2011 he had bought 18 stores across Australia, which he sold back to the group when he moved here in September last year to head-up the NZ operation.
It is clear from the speed of Bush's pizza-making and cutting skills how much of his time is still spent on the ground at the stores, something he is extremely passionate about.
It appears Bush's biggest regret when taking on the role is that it might end up limiting his time in the stores working alongside staff.
"At the end of the day it comes down to two things. It comes down to pizza and people," Bush said. "And you can have all of these other cool things, which we do, but what keeps me getting out of bed every morning is that no matter how good we are, we can always be better and that's exciting."
With three children, aged 5, 3 and 8 months, Bush is expecting to be kept fairly busy over the next few years.
