Children's shoes recalled over cancer risk

Retailer Ezibuy has recalled a children's shoe over health concerns.

The lining of the brogue shoe contains benzidine, which has been linked to an increased risk of cancer.

Ezibuy sold the Next UK navy brogue shoe in New Zealand between December 19, 2016 and June 29, 2017.

The recall notice said the benzidine in the lining "could have carcinogenic properties if in prolonged contact with the skin".

The same Next shoe has been recalled in UK and Australia.

Next published a recall for the shoe on its Website in June.

"Unfortunately, it's come to light that there's a potential problem with the lining of the above style which contains a quantity of restricted substance which exceeds Next's specification," the notice said.

"As the shoes don't meet our strict, technical specifications, we've taken the decision of recalling them, and are requesting that you return them to us for a full refund.

"We're very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience caused, but we hope you'll understand that customer safety is our highest priority."
