LONDON - Former Deutsche Boerse chief executive Werner Seifert has been taken on as an adviser to Australia's Macquarie Bank as it considers a bid for the London Stock Exchange, newspaper reports say.
The Financial Times says Seifert, who stepped down in May from the German exchange after a six-month
tussle with investors angered at his handling of a bid for the 300-year-old LSE, has been taken on as one of several advisers to Macquarie.
He "will have no role in any team should Macquarie make a successful bid for the LSE", a source said.
An unnamed adviser said to be close to Seifert was quoted by the FT as saying: "He is not specifically involved in the LSE transaction."
A report in the Daily Mail said Seifert was understood to have met Macquarie as part of the bank's research on the LSE, Europe's biggest sharemarket.
