World’s biggest liquefied natural gas car-carrier ship in Auckland for first time

A big new green ship is in town for the first time and may be turning heads around Auckland’s port.

The roll-on roll-off SAIC Anji Sincerity can deliver virtually anything on wheels.

It is believed to be the world’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel “ro-ro” in operation.

A Port of Auckland spokeswoman said Sincerity was 199.9m long, 38m wide and had a 15.5m draught.

“We are really starting to see an uplift in vehicles again, mainly new cars,” she said.

The wharf was packed with new vehicles on Friday, many of them camper vans.

Port of Auckland told the Herald that 1300 vehicles came off the boat, including motorhomes, caravans, cars, and farm vehicles.

Sincerity arrived yesterday from Brisbane and is expected to depart for Mizushima, Japan, tonight.

It had its maiden voyage last year from Shanghai to Europe on January 17.

According to its owner, SAIC, the ship used LNG and low-sulphur fuel oil, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by up to 30%.

SAIC Anji Logistics is part of Shanghai-based and state-owned SAIC Motor Corp.
