Toll waits for nod

The Australian competition watchdog said yesterday that it expected to decide on Toll Holdings and Patrick Corp's joint purchase of Freight Australia within two weeks.

"It is not far off. We are close to be able to make a decision on the matter," ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said.

Pacific National, jointly owned by Toll and Patrick, bought Freight Australia for A$285 million from RailAmerica in March.

The purchase had sparked concerns among rivals, notably from unlisted transport group Linfox, that Toll and Patrick would dominate the freight transport sector.
