Quality and price bring cover-making back to NZ

An Auckland company specialising in boat and marine covers is bucking the trend of manufacturing all its products in China. Instead Cover Systems International is to once again make some of its covers in New Zealand.

Founder and director Sam Paterson says the company has made the unusual move of shifting manufacturing back to New Zealand for a number of reasons.

"Manufacturing some of our more premium products here in New Zealand means that I can assure and monitor production more easily. I can also avoid having to produce large runs of product, therefore keeping costs down for the consumer.

"The net benefit is that we can concentrate more on quality and price."

The first Cover Systems product to be "brought back home" is the DryZone boat cover range. Paterson says this is aimed at delivering advanced protection for boats between 4m and 7m and is being showcased at this weekend's Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show in Auckland.

"DryZone covers use the latest fabric and manufacturing technologies," he says. "This includes 600 x 600-denier fabric made by the world-renowned Glen Raven company.

This fabric is strong, breathable and keeps boats 100 per cent dry. It features double overlapping stitching and reinforced areas over stress points.

Each cover comes with a sturdy storage bag and an all-important three-year warranty."

Paterson says Cover Systems will continue to manufacture some higher volume products overseas.

"We are committed to supplying boat covers and marine products to suit all budgets."
