Infrastructure investor Infratil today said June month passenger numbers were up at its Wellington International and Glasgow Prestwick airports, but freight volumes at Glasgow had continued to fall.
Domestic passenger numbers at Wellington Airport, two thirds owned by Infratil, were up 12 per cent to 324,215 for the month and internationalpassenger numbers were up 33 per cent to 41,901.
Over the three months ended June, domestic passengers were up 11 per cent, while international passengers were up 33 per cent.
Meanwhile at Glasgow Prestwick, total passengers were up 21 per cent for the month while freight was down by 26 per cent for the month and 21 per cent for the quarter.
In March, Infratil said Glasgow Prestwick's annual result was "disappointing", with freight figures falling during the final months of the year.
Infratil managing director Lloyd Morrison said he was confident the airport's freight figures could be turned around, despite admitting it was not known why the slump had occurred.
While the biggest and smallest of the airport's four main freight customers had enjoyed robust business, the other two had a poor year. "It's quite anomalous," Mr Morrison said.
Infratil increased its holding in Glasgow Prestwick to 100 per cent earlier in the year.
