Landowners may get reprieve from plans

Waikato landowners fuming at Transpower plans to build huge power pylons across their land will be pleased to hear Mighty River Power wants to fire up the Marsden B power station at Marsden Point, near Whangarei, using coal.

If it goes ahead, the station could provide enough power for Northland and Auckland to do away with the need for a new transmission line, for a few years at least.
