Former American FBI special agent turned New Zealand DIY hardware chain boss John Hartmann is leaving Mitre 10.
Chairman Martin Dippie said Mr Hartmann was taking on the leadership of a firm in the United States so a search was on for his successor.
Hartmann had changed the business which
pushed up sales 6.5 per cent annually to make $858.4 million in the June 2012 year, returning more than $45 million to members as a rebate, Dippie said.
The business had steadily invested in the co-operative with new stores in major centres and provincial towns, he said. Fifteen new Mega stores were opened.
"Under John's leadership, the company has put in place a highly qualified leadership team that has worked closely with the board on the strategic plan and annual business plans," Dippie said adding that the financial results were a clear indication of the team's ability to execute those plans.
