This is how the rich and famous live or will live when Mark and Amanda Hotchin's $30 million mansion is completed.
The Herald on Sunday has the plans for the luxurious six-bedroom home on Auckland's Paritai Drive, which sources say could be finished in six months. Work started two years
ago. It is on the market.
But the only room with fittings so far is a bathroom which has floor-to-ceiling marble, a marble-encased shower and a stand-alone classic Phillipe Stark-esque egg-shaped bath.
The mansion has been a lightning-rod for criticism of Hotchin after Hanover Finance, the company he co-owned with Eric Watson, was frozen in 2008 owing $554m to 16,000 investors.
Graham Wall of Graham Wall Real Estate, who sold the Sultan of Brunei's Herne Bay properties, says the Hotchin house is without a doubt the most elegant and beautifully proportioned home built in Auckland for "many a year".
And it is so big, the Herald on Sunday has estimated that you could fit three three-bedroom state houses on the ground floor alone.
The house is on three floors and there is a separate guest house in the southwest corner of the property. It will have an indoor lap pool, an outdoor pool and two ponds.
The six bedrooms have ensuites, there is a 12- to 13-car garage, tennis court, home theatre, music room, bar and cellar, lift, and a games room that includes a dance floor. There is also a large area for shoes and rumours there will be a "present wrapping" room.
In June, Hotchin's spokesman Klaus Sorensen said: "It's no longer appropriate for Mark and Amanda to occupy the house.
"People can draw their own conclusions why they're selling, but most of them are fairly obvious."
