Compulsory super in the wind?

The idea of a compulsory superannuation scheme may not be such a hard sell as politicians have previously thought.

There are reports this morning the Government is putting together a working group to look at the idea. It would consider incentives such as tax breaks to make compulsory saving more attractive.

Financial writer Mary Holm believes a compulsory savings scheme would go down well, especially with people who have not signed up for KiwiSaver. She says those people might be happy if someone made them do it, because it is good for them.

However, Mary Holm says she is not overly comfortable with the idea of the Government telling people what to do with their money.
