Budget 09: Balance sheet check

The Government is taking a look at the risks and performance of the assets and liabilities in its balance sheet.

Crown net worth, the difference between assets and liabilities, has increased from 10 per cent of gross domestic product to 54 per cent in the past 10 years.

Total assets have risen from $72 billion to $219 billion over 10 years and financial assets have increased from $19 billion to $100 billion. Property assets have increased from $42 billion to $106 billion.

Investment in state-owned business and Crown entities has increased from $13 billion to $68 billion.
