Famous US ice-cream brand Ben & Jerry's has confirmed its first New Zealand store will be opening on Ponsonby Road in less than a month, and has released a list of the first flavours that customers can expect.
The brand is famous for its chunky ice-cream and unique flavours. It'sfirst flagship store at 160 Ponsonby Rd will feature 18 flavours, including Strawberry Cheesecake, Chunky Monkey - banana ice cream with fudge chunks and walnuts, Choc Chip Cookie Dough, and Phish Food - chocolate ice cream with gooey marshmallow swirls, chocolate fish and caramel swirls and two sorbet, but no uniquely kiwi flavours as yet.
Kylie Le-May from marketing at Ben & Jerry's said the company had finally heeded requests to come to New Zealand.
"We know Kiwis love to travel and they've enjoyed Ben & Jerry's all over the world," Le-May said. "We've literally had tons of requests to bring our delicious ice cream to New Zealand, so we thought, yeah let's do it," she said.
Excitement had been building since Ben & Jerry's first announced it would be coming to New Zealand last week, with customers quick to take to social media to speculate on location and timing. The company said as well as opening its first store by middle of next month, it would also be selling some of its range through specific retailers and outlets in New Zealand.
"We can't wait to welcome Kiwis into our new Scoop Store to get stuck in and enjoy the gooey chunks of chocolate fudge, huge helpings of cookie dough and flowing flavour swirls that our unique flavours are famous for," said Le-May.
Ben & Jerry's now operates in more than 30 countries and said part of its mission was to use its business as a tool for social and environmental change.
As part of this the company would be working with Keep New Zealand Beautiful.
