Ann Sherry is moving from deposit slips to passenger ships.
Former Westpac New Zealand chief executive Ann Sherry has been appointed chief executive officer of Carnival Australia.
Ms Sherry will take up her position in mid-July.
She will run the Australian operation of Miami-based Carnival, the world's largest cruise company, which reported revenues of US$2.46 billion ($3.44b) in
the first quarter of 2007.
Ms Sherry's four-year term in this country ended in March.
The Australian newspaper today reported that she had signalled her intention for a change when she told the bank that she wanted to leave New Zealand.
She said New Zealand was a difficult market, but her successor, Brad Cooper, would agree that he had inherited a business in much better shape.
The allure of the new position is the global nature of the company and the challenges of a new industry.
"I bring fresh thinking to the industry. I bring management experience," Ms Sherry said.
"One of the great things about banking is there is an incredible sense of what makes good businesses tick."
