Alcatel and Lucent talks off

Merger talks between French telecommunications giant Alcatel and Lucent Technologies have been called off after intense negotiations failed to yield an agreement.

A source close to the negotiations said issues over corporate governance and management of the combined company were the main factors preventing a deal.
