Air New Zealand says its jet fuel bill has more than doubled due to the Middle East War, BusinessDesk reports.
Air NZ chief executive Nikhil Ravishankar has detailed the impact of rocketing fuel prices on NZ’s national carrier in an email to customers.
Ravishankar said Air NZ’s fuel billhad risen from about $4 million per day to $8.5m per day, and jet fuel prices had increased from about US$85 (about NZ$148) six weeks ago to above US$200.
The airline used about 22,000 barrels a day.
“We can’t absorb that level of cost increase without taking action. But we can control how we respond and prepare for the months ahead.”
The email said the airline was actively managing its costs, including its network and capacity, so it could keep operating more than 400 flights each day.
