Auckland Diamonds are match-ready and fired up to face the Southern Sting this weekend, writes Holly Reid, and may just have the edge Back from a short-lived retirement, former Silver Fern netballer Jenny-May Coffin is just coming into her finest at midcourt for the Auckland Diamonds. ``It's been a tough road backand I've probably only just reached my potential over the past couple of weeks,'' says the high profile player, who's a familiar face on TV One's sports bulletins. Now 33, Jenny-May's been living in Auckland for the past 18 months and joined the Diamonds squad this season after getting back to her sport through the National Provincial Championship last year. She retired from the Waikato Magic three years ago. But her strength and confidence ahead of the 2007 National Bank Cup's crucial sixth round may not bring hoots of joy to the deep south. Southern Sting face the Diamonds this weekend on their home ground. Jenny-May won't put herself on the line by predicting a win, but she knows only too well the score will determine a semi-final spot for the Diamonds. ``It's going to be pretty much down to how we play on the day. There's a lot of youth and enthusiasm out there (in the Diamonds). It's just whether we can harness that on the day. The Sting are obviously a pretty classy act,'' she says. Both teams have four wins behind them, but the local team welcomes three Silver Ferns back for the match. Diamonds players Anna Scarlett, Paula Griffin and Maria Tutaia have returned from the Tri-Nations series in England, as the National Bank Cup re-commences after a two-week break. Diamonds v Sting, Trusts Stadium, May 26 at 7.30pm.
