Teens, take note: Youthtown isn't only for little kids.
The organisation is putting the word out to over-13s - hoping its new Urban Unity brand will encourage greater involvement in sporting, social and cultural activities.
Youthtown's business development manager, Greg Weller, says it is putting more emphasis on activities for older youngsters.
One
of the great options for teens is film-making - Youthtown runs short film contests and an animation contest, developed with the South Seas Film, Television and Animation School.
School holiday programmes are also gaining momentum, catering for those teenagers who like blo-karting, snorkelling, kayaking and sailing, as well as for those who enjoy less taxing activities, such as catching a movie or relaxing on the beach.
Youthtown has also just appointed a youth co-ordinator, Jewelz Petley.
She says she and a group of young volunteers are keen to boost the number of Youthtown social events, like dance parties and rock and hip-hop gigs, to two each school term.
Ms Petley is on the lookout for more youth volunteers to help out, by becoming a part of what's known as the Urban Unity Events Squad.
Other events include the regular Thursday night Disrupt the Floor sessions, with up to 80 adrenalin-packed young people invading Youthtown's Nelson St building for hip-hop and breakdancing sessions. - by Alice Hudson
