Police have located a Good Samaritan who chanced upon a badly beaten man and took him to hospital last month, likely saving his life.
Police said a friend of the man has been in contact with police after seeing his image in the media today.
The Samaritan was driving along Central Rd in Kingsland on the night of November 14 when he came across a seriously injured man lying in the middle of the road. The man had been brutally assaulted and had his neck stomped on, causing a near-fatal break.
The Samaritan picked the injured man up off the road, helped him into the passenger seat of his car and drove him to Auckland City Hospital. Once the victim was in the hands of doctors and nurses at the hospital's emergency department, the Samaritan left.
After his release from hospital the victim said he wanted to meet his "angel" and thank him.
Doctors told him he was lucky to be alive after the attack, which could have also left him paralysed.
