Anybody have fond and enduring memories of going to the flicks in Birkenhead?
Allan Webb, the owner and operator of the Regent Theatre in Te Awamutu, is looking for memorabilia and photographs of the cinemas in the area for inclusion in his revamped and expanded History of Auckland and Greater Auckland Cinemas.
He's particularly interested in the history of Forester's Hall in Birkenhead, which became the Kiwi and later the Highbury.
From the photographs Mr Webb has obtained so far of the Forester's and the Highbury, it would appear they are different buildings. Yet he has found no record of this.
"So we believe that the Forester's was demolished and the Kiwi erected in its place," Mr Webb says.
Any assistance, photographs, memorabilia etc would be gratefully received and due acknowledgement made in the final volumes which will be donated to interested museums and libraries.
