Sorry Phillipa nowhere is sacred now.
I would suspect that the reason to build in a residential/semi industrial area is that when the residents and children get to smell the odour of the product then they will have a captive sales population. How many parents are going to say no to
their children's plaintive cries? Takes a good marketing person to scope this out.
Once an area is zoned for this type of operation nothing can stop it.
This is just another operation along the lines of the McDonalds in Balmoral. They got that one also against the surrounding residents disapproval.
The only real way to stop these expanding is for the population to stop buying their products. But I doubt that will ever happen as fast food seems to be the food of today.

How can a KFC be placed so close to a kindergarten without consultation? Are we living in a Western democracy or a third world dictatorship?
I hope this bullying without consultation of the Auckland citizens is not a prelude of how the new so called super city is going to operate under one mayor.
If KFC must build, why don't they build a KFC next to the McDonalds in the car park by the Countdown Supermarket? Then both KFC and McDonalds can smell each other out with their fried food and leave the kindergarten in a safe zone.
