LETTER: An elephant in my garden

I think the numbers are the answer to this debate: 600,000 people visit the zoo every year, many of them children, no numbers are given for the people complaining against the proposed expansion, although I'd be impressed if it were 100.
The Westmere resident sick of the zoo (and the speedway) has been living there 30 years already, so it can't annoy her that much. Additionally, the zoo was established a full half century before her arrival in the neighbourhood. Would it be too simple to point out: if you don't like living next door to a zoo, don't move to a house next door to a zoo? And won't somebody please think about the children?
