Save An Auckland man who spent 81 hours up a kauri tree has been convicted of trespass.
Michael Tavares will have a strike on his record, but will escape punishment if he does not reoffend within 12 months.
He was charged with wilful trespass for climbing a kauri tree on private
property in March.
He admitted his guilt in May and was ordered to enter a process of restorative justice with the property's owners.
That was assessed as not suitable, however, because each party held an opposing viewpoint.
