Drivers are advised of changes to a section of Auckland's Great North Road interchange from tomorrow when three lanes will become two.
The T2 lane only on the eastbound on-ramp to the Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) will be closed.
The T2 lane closure is part of the NZTransport Agency's Causeway Upgrade Project. It will allow the on-ramp to be re-aligned with interchange ramps being constructed for the adjoining Waterview tunnel project.
The Causeway Alliance will widen and raise the verges on both sides of the Great North Road on-ramp and then raise the on-ramp itself.
"We need to reduce the existing on-ramp from three to two lanes so that our team can work on one side of it at a time," says the Transport Agency's acting Highway Manager Steve Mutton.
"We have been monitoring traffic flow at the on-ramp and do not believe the T2 lane closure will have a significant impact. However, drivers will be sharing the other two lanes with heavy vehicles and a few buses, and people should take care driving through a live construction site for the safety of themselves and others."
The Causeway upgrade is one of six projects finished or underway to complete the Western Ring Route to connect the Northwestern and Southwestern (SH20) motorways.
