The planned development of the old Papakura Army Camp is one step closer, as McConnell Property seeks to rezone part of the land for up to 450 houses. McConnell Property is the developer of the neighbouring Addison in Takanini, and Anselmi Ridge in Pukekohe, both high-intensity housing developments. While theexact design of the army camp development, titled the McLennan project, is to be confirmed only after public consultation, McConnell's spokesman, Mark Fraser, says the new homes would not be a mirror of either earlier development. ``We're sounding out different ideas,'' he says. ``It's a long way off yet.'' Mr Fraser says the housing would be high end, and designed to fit in with the surrounding area. This is especially crucial as the development's neighbours would include the Ministry of Education, with at least one school, as well as the Special Air Services base and Bruce Pulman Park across the road. The land for the McLennan project will need to be bought from Housing NZ. McConnell has already made a purchase agreement with Housing NZ, which has the option of buying up to 30 per cent of the land back from the developers at a later stage. Two information days will be held for local people to learn more about the proposal and enable them to submit feedback. Concept designs will be available on the day.
