Fundraising all day and fun-raising all evening will help get Ararimu Hall a new kitchen, writes Andrea Jutson.
The tiny Ararimu community has decided once again that if it wants things done, it will do them itself, and have lots of fun in the process.
Ararimu Hall - built through community fundraising
- needs a new kitchen, and citizens have banded together to line up sponsors and events to bring in the cash for it.
The Ararimu Country Fair features 30 stalls plus food from as far afield as Takapuna. This St Patrick's Day, March 17, visitors to the South can enjoy a spectacular day out in true country fashion. There are races, lucky dips, gumboot throwing, and bake-offs for men, women and children, with more than $800 in prizes.
A vegetable-growing competition will feature big beans, monster marrows and prodigious pumpkins. Watch out for the burning house supplied by Hunua Volunteer Fire Brigade and Newfoundland dog cart rides. The fire brigade will also hold a coconut shy to raise funds for its base.
In honour of the day, there's a dance in the evening with a green theme, complete with shamrocks. Cafe Ararimu will be open with food and music.
