A range of rewards are on offer from custom dice and mugs to the opportunity to name a private gaming room.
The couple, from Blockhouse Bay, say that similar cafes are popping up around the world.
"Board game cafes are huge overseas and a couple have popped up recently here including the Caffeinated Dragon in Wellington. "
Emma says she hopes that the cafe will make playing games more accessible by bringing people together and building communities.
She is aiming to open in August.
The Cakes n Ladders cafe will open Wednesday to Friday from 5pm to 10 pm and 10am to 10pm weekends
