Aucklanders have the chance to Stand Up for Christchurch on March 29 at a comedy fundraiser for those affected by the Christchurch earthquake.
"With all the devastation in Christchurch, it's quite easy to feel helpless up here in Auckland. We want to do something but didn't know what to do," says
organiser Wade Jackson, of The Improv Bandits.
"Comedian Mel Brooks once said, 'Humour is but another weapon against the universe.' When nature ripped apart Christchurch we grieved for our fellow Kiwis but we will show our spirit through resolve and humour.
"Now is the time for Auckland to Stand Up for Christchurch and our comedians have really come through,"Jackson says.
The show is hosted by The Improv Bandits and is supported by BNZ. It features Andrew Clay, Ben Hurley, Brendhan Lovegrove, Dai Henwood, Ewen Gilmour, Greg Ward, Jan Maree, Jeremy Elwood, Jesse Mulligan, Mark Scott, Michelle A' Court, Mike King, Mike Loder, Paul Ego, Penny Ashton, Steve, Wrigley, Tarun Mohanbhai, Tevita Manukai and Wade Jackson. More acts are still to be announced.
Jackson says he is hoping for a sell out show, with all proceeds to go to the BNZ Red Cross Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.
"All the comedians will perform free of charge and venue hireage and booking fees for the event have been waived. The event staff are all donating their time as well. We've got BNZ, More FM and George FM proudly supporting the event all in the name of raising funds.
"There's no need to feel helpless at home, come on Auckland let's get out, put some bums on seats and Stand Up for Christchurch."
