It's a funny old world. In the same month, the brothers Finn both release new albums that they didn't think they would make. In Neil's case it's a family affair under the banner The Pajama Club; for Tim it's a ninth solo album.
As the writer of some of our
greatest pop classics, Tim's solo albums have always had an uneven feel about them. Not so here. You sense right off that Tim Finn is in a pretty good place at this stage of his long career. There's a wistful feeling in some places, but overall a backdrop of optimism and positivity. And the production is absolutely first-class, thanks to Jacquire King, whose resume includes Tom Waits, Kings of Leon and Norah Jones. Tim Finn has brought a bunch of songs to the table that gives the band and producers a focus, the glue that makes it work.
The View is worth the Climb is definitely worth your time.
